Septic Systems

SOON

As property owners on Van Etten Lake we benefit – in pure enjoyment and in real value – from the high degree of water quality of our lake.  As a lake home or cabin, septic system upkeep is more crucial due to water contamination risks.

In general, a septic tank should be inspected approximately every 5 years and pumped every 3-5 years.  The frequency of pumping the septic tank depends on the tank size, number of people in the household, habits of water use, as well as the amounts of solids accumulated in the tank.  Failing septic systems can contaminate and harm human health and the environment by releasing bacteria, viruses, and household toxins to ground and surface water resources.

This year our lake was relatively clear of algae.  If you had algae in front of your home and your neighbors did not perhaps you should have your septic tank inspected.  Or perhaps you did not use a phosphorus free fertilizer on your lawn, hence you experienced the effects of the runoff.
